...... How I Relived My Childhood in Florida - Frog in Well
I’m not the most nostalgic of people. I don’t long for the butterflies of Christmas morning or the excitement of an old TV show coming on the screen, like so many of my friends do. Don’t get me wrong, I have fond memories of all those things – but they are deep within in the past, and I’m more of a forward-thinking type of guy. I always look to the future. Even when I’m travelling, I’m thinking of my next big adventure.
That’s why Florida startled me. I mean, it genuinely surprised me. For one week I felt like a child. For one week, I ate too much ice cream, went on plenty of rides and felt like I was off on my way to Hogwarts with Ron and Hermione. It was, undoubtedly, one of the most entertaining, enjoyable and wonderful weeks of my life.

I absolutely loved Disneyland. How could you not? What with the rollercoasters, Disney Castle and even the amazing gift shops, but my favourite place had to be, of course, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I’m not afraid or ashamed to tell you that the Harry Potter books have captured my heart and mind, even now as a fully-grown adult. They are words I can turn to when I just want to zone of out the stress or monotony of life, and enter a world that is filled with adventure, mystery and beauty.
I absolutely fell in love with the recreation of Diagon Alley, which reminded me so much of the films – and the attention to detail was simply astounding. It was also pretty special to go to Olivander’s Wand Shop and buy my own wand. An utter nerd moment that I’m both embarrassed and proud to admit. Speaking of memorabilia, the gift shops are worth the trip alone for any Harry Potter fan – and I also recommend a trip to The Three Broomsticks to try the amazing butterbeer. A must for any true potterhead!
